When a new baby is on the way, the world throws hundreds of decisions at you. You have to decide on diapers to feeding and even what detergent to use. Figuring out if you should hire an in-home newborn photographer shouldn’t be another stress point.
I’ve been heading into homes around Spokane and the Inland NW for years capturing families with new babies. You can see my brand of newborn work here, but I wanted to share four reasons why I think you should hire an in-home newborn photographer for your family.
In-Home Newborn Photographers Come to You
Traveling with a new baby can be a legit struggle, especially if you’re packing up other kiddos. Plus, new babies have such a delicate immune system taking them out into public in the first few weeks doesn’t always feel like a risk many families are happy to take on.
When you hire an in-home newborn photographer, they bring the photography to you. There is no need to travel, disrupt children’s schedules, or venture into public.
Photographers see details you might not know are important yet
My favorite thing about going into a home for photography is catching those tiny details that are so fleeting in the first weeks. They are details that often go overlooked in the beginning amidst the chaos, but you will cherish them for a lifetime in photos that keep the memories strong.
Do you remember how your new baby squished in your arms at two weeks old or smelled when you snuggled the top of their head? I’m sure you probably do. But what if you also had a set of images that triggered that feeling all over again? It’s those details that spark big emotions I aim to capture with a family.
As a newborn documentary photographer, this is what I do. I look for those moments in the middle of everyday life that you’ll want to pull out and bookmark for later.
In-Home Photography is inclusive of all family members
Studio newborn work typically focuses primarily on the new baby, but we can easily include everyone when a photographer comes to your home.
If having the youngest siblings to grandparents involved in your newborn photo shoot seems important, then doing it at home will facilitate a smooth experience.
My newborn sessions often include the family pets. I’m not just talking about dogs; cats typically get in on the action when we bring photos back home.
Newborn Photos at Home Include Your Home
Newborn photos at home include your home. This statement seems obvious, I’m sure. But please know, I don’t mean your WHOLE home. Often I’m shooting in a small space for almost our entire session. However, we can bring elements of your life into meaningful photos for your family.
Ways to include your home in the photos could be as simple as the baby’s crib or name on the wall to as big as hanging out in your living room on a sunny day. The point isn’t how much of your home space you’re including. What matters is that you are infusing some of your environment into photos.
