You don’t need a spotless nursery or a sleepy, swaddled baby on a beanbag to have professional baby photos. You don’t even need to leave your house. Let me tell you why.
If you’ve ever typed “professional baby photos” into Google and felt overwhelmed by the studio-perfect examples that come up—this is for you. Because while those sessions work for some, what I offer here in Spokane, WA looks (and feels) a little different.
Actually, it looks a lot like your real life.
“Professional doesn’t mean polished. It means present, intentional, and honest.”

So What Are Professional Baby Photos, Then?
Here’s the short version: professional baby photos are thoughtfully made, beautifully delivered, and deeply personal. They preserve what’s real—not what’s styled.
Yes, they’re technically excellent. Yes, they’re edited with care and printed with intention. But more than anything, they feel like your family. Not someone else’s Pinterest board.
Studio newborn photos vs. In-Home: What’s the Difference?

Let Me Paint You a Picture
Here’s what a common inhome newborn session looks like for me as a professional Spokane newborn photographer.
I arrive mid-morning and am immediately greeted by an overly enthusiastic dog—one who has lots of feelings about the new baby. (No worries. I’ve got treats in my pocket and plenty of patience.)
There’s usually a big sibling zooming around who needs a little extra attention, so I take the time to chat, show them my camera, and make sure they know: this isn’t just the baby’s day—it’s theirs, too.
Grandparents are often visiting—perfect. I make sure they feel welcome and know they absolutely belong in the photos. Surprisngly enough grandparents are often the hardest to convince to get in the photos but seriousy multiple genrations together are just amazing. They are photos you want and I make sure we create a space safe for them as well.
And from there? We follow the baby’s lead. I move with the light, the energy, and your family’s rhythm. We’ll shift rooms, take breaks when needed, and document the morning as it unfolds.
Sometimes we linger in the nursery, other times it’s the living room floor or kitchen island where the magic happens. There’s no script—just a natural rhythm that unfolds while you settle in, feed your baby, grab a snack, or comfort a wiggly toddler. We move when the moment asks us to. It’s in these transitions—the in-between glances, the quiet hands, the unexpected laugh—that the most meaningful photos are made.
(If you’re wondering whether dogs belong in newborn sessions—this post explains why I believe they absolutely do AND how to do it.)

What Makes Baby Photos ‘Professional’?
- A calm, experienced photographer who can read the room (and the baby)
- High-quality images edited with intention
- Thoughtful lighting and natural storytelling
- A process that supports your family’s comfort—not a rushed schedule
- Images are ready to be printed in heirloom quality art for your home
- Final images that feel like this season of life—not just look like it
If you’re still wondering if this style is the best fit
If you’re on the fence between studio or in-home, here’s a little gut check:
- If your baby cries or cluster-feeds a lot—this will work.
- If your home feels messy or unfinished—this will still work.
- If you want your dog in every photo (tail blur and all)—this definitely works.
Professional baby photos should meet you where you are—not ask you to be somewhere else, emotionally or physically.
Whether you’re in Spokane, the Inland Northwest, or just somewhere in that hazy newborn fog, your home holds the story. I’ll bring the calm, the camera, and the snacks for your furry friend.
“You don’t need a perfect space. You just need your people, your light, and someone to document it.”
Final Thoughts
There’s no one perfect way to do newborn photos. However, if you’re craving baby photos that feel warm, honest, and personal—without the pressure of perfection—know that there’s room for that here.
I’ve photographed babies in cluttered kitchens, on rumpled beds, with grandparents peeking in from the hallway and toddlers stealing the show. Every session looks a little different because every family is different. That’s the point. There’s nothing cookie-cutter about your life, so your photos shouldn’t be either.

Your home. Your dog. Your rhythm. Your story.
That’s what I mean when I say professional.
