If you’ve lived in Spokane for any length of time, you have probably at least heard of Bowl and Pitcher in Riverside State Park. This is for good reason! Riverside State Park has some of the BEST places to get out and explore with your family, and Bowl and Pitcher is one of the most iconic portions. When I started chatting with a Mom about doing a session, I was so excited to hear she was up for doing her fall family photos at Bowl and Pitcher.

I’m going to try and refrain from gushing too much about how I love this portion of the park, but if you’d like more details on Bowl and Pitcher for your next adventure, check out this recent post for Tails and Trails.

A Family Session with kids and pups!

This sweet family included two very busy little boys ready to explore instead of holding still for lots of photos. Lucky for them, sitting still for family photos isn’t my jam either!

Another bonus about this session? They brought their sweet dogs too! When people inquire about bringing dogs, I tell people that I, under NO circumstances, expect them to behave correctly. In fact, in this session, Lemon (the lab) decided to go for an impromptu dip in the river. She gave a great example of how life with dogs can go, and we roll with it.

My favorite thing about a Lifestyle Family Session is giving everyone (pets included) the space to exist as themselves. Unscripted and authentic. When we let go of the idea of perfection, we provide space for something even more beautiful that comes from the freedom to be ourselves. I love seeing the unique personalities of kids shine (and be embraced) in our sessions.

All in all, this session was a blast. We played down by the river where there are trees, a small beach, and rocks to toss into the water. Then we ventured across the swinging bridge to the trails sheltered by towering pines. It wasn’t long before we had to turn back as it was getting dark quickly. However, we were able to grab some of my favorite images from these fall family photos at Bowl and Pitcher on our way back to the parking lot.

These two holding hands on the way just made my day!
